Is it a good time to buy a home?
Thursday Jun 06, 2024
Thursday Jun 06, 2024
Interest rates are high, there’s an election looming and the property market is ‘subdued’ according to economists. With so much uncertainty is it a good time to buy a home?
What Mortgage editor, Kate Saines, put this question to a mortgage broker with 21 years’ experience in the industry. David Jackson, owner and founder of Prestige Private Finance, has been through many ups and downs in the mortgage and property worlds so he has seen first-hand how these events have played out in the past for his many clients.
Whilst he doesn’t, sadly, have a crystal ball he does have lots of tips on how first-time buyers and movers can gauge when the time is right to move and what they need to have in place to make the homebuying process as smooth as possible.
Among the topics covered in this podcast are:
Is now a good time to buy a home and if not when is the ideal time to make a move?
How can first-time buyers and movers prepare to take out a home buying mortgage?
What will happen to mortgage rates in the next year?
Property market forecast 2024 and beyond

But what do they do for you, exactly, and is it worth using one?
We invited Aaron Tyson, director of Open Financial Advice into to the What Mortgage studio to chat to our editor, Kate Saines, to find out more. He’s a mortgage broker and a financial adviser and he explains more about his job, how he helps clients and also what services he offers.
It turns out, brokers don’t just find mortgages – in fact they can be a guide throughout the whole homebuying process.
This interview is available as a podcast or video and will offer a useful insight into what brokers do and whether they are worth using when taking out a mortgage.
